Makeup Show Chicago 2013 Recap: Interview with Merrell Hollis
Last weekend the acclaimed Makeup Show rolled in Chicago last week June 9th & 10th, to introduce some of the industries newest trends and techniques. In its 3rd year The Makeup Show Chicago, held at the Bridgeport Art Center, saw over 3,500 beauty professionals, buyers, industry educators, press, and retailers at Bridgeport Art Center, the Makeup Show was two days dedicated to artistry, networking, and community.
I was one of the lucky few who had a chance to get an early view at blogger preview that happened on Saturday evening with James Vincent before the show open to the “public” Sunday morning. James talked about makeup trends, how to make makeup and Chicago humid summer work together, and tons of tidbits on who he is and how be got involved in the industryw! So happy I went because I received a HUGE bag full of goodies! These are just a few of the goodies I received in the bag.
I stopped by a hit up a few booths and fell in love with the pigment of the this New Orleans based
Making Up with Merrell Hollis
Undoubtedly the highlight of the 2013 Makeup Show Chicago was my interview with Celeb Makeup Artist Merrell Hollis. Uber humble Merrell has a superb clientele including beating Wendy Williams’ face to perfection every day for her talk show, and has also worked with Naomi Campbell, Mary J Blige, Vivica J Fox, Selita Ebanks, Usher, Alek Wek, Monica, Faith, and Diddy.
Originally from Columbia, Georgia you can definitely tell Merrell has southern roots as he refuses to allow himself to be considered a “celebrity makeup artist.” He says “I have celebrity clients, but I’m just a makeup artist.” I suffer from eczema and my skin is pretty funky, I know some of you gals suffer as well. Merrell says there no specific products that can be used “you must treat the inflammation, then apply the makeup” I was excited to find out I had been doing it right! LOL
I asked Merrell for his top five products for his makeup kit and top products for us Chicago folk dealing with humid weather. Check out what he thinks you need.
Top 5 Makeup Must Haves:
- The Beauty Blender
- Orange Corrector
- Sam Fine’s Fashion Fair Collection (the lipsticks are the perfect shades for all skin tones and types across the board)
- Meron Celebré Pro HD Foundation
- Temptu Airbrush Machine with Airpod
Top Products for Summer:
- Mehron Barrier Spray
- Cream/Primer for holding makeup (like Nurturing Force Blot Out Offensive)
- Kryolan Anti-Shine Powder
These products for summer are made to use with your foundation. I’m definitely going to use them for those days when it’s 90% humidity!
