I have not done a “Where You Need to Be!” foodie post in so long! I’m always eating and sharing on instagram or twitter but rarely here. For my birthday trip to San Francisco I decided it would be a great way to reintroduce this to my blog as I planned to be eating like I was the Tasmanian Devil. Friday Aug 7 I was invited to dinner at Cioppino’s and I arrived with expectation and left amazed!
Cioppino’s is an italian restaurant that has been around for 100 years and while unlike most Fisherman Wharf restaurants, which are often named after the family that runs it, Cioppino is named after a lusty and flavorful seafood soup which is uniquely San Franciscan. They have a full menu that includes a wide array of seafood and italian dishes that include sandwiches, salmon, pastas, pizzas, even tasty kids dishes.
Here are a few things were ordered from the menu that I found to be amazing:
Smoked Salmon and Crab Crostini
Smoked salmon is at the top of my list of favorite things to eat! This appetizer was the first thing I was on the menu so it was a “must have!” It was fresh and perfection. Perfect balance of meat and bread. The bread was no overly hard and it was a pleasure to eat!
Whole Dungeness Crab in Roasted Garlic Sauce with Fries
My friend had never tasted Dungeness crab before, she chose one that set the bar pretty high. The crab legs were pretty cooked so they were easy to crack and they roasted garlic sauce was delicious! One of the best I’ve ever had. The fries were crispy, salted goodness! You can get veggies and rice, but we opted to be fat!
My choice was this “special” that included pesto sauce with shrimp and Mahi Mahi. Delicious. I often struggle with fettucine sauces being too thick or too creamy… this sauce perfect. Again, the seafood was amazingly fresh!
We opted out of dessert before we were seated next to a couple from Spain, where the husband’s birthday just happened to be Aug 6 and we needed to save room to celebrate with cocktails.
All in All I love this place. In a crowded restaurant on Friday night the service was really great and the ambiance was amazing. If you live in SanFran or you are headed out to the city for vacation, make sure you checkout Ciopponi’s.
